First thing’s first: what is the Graduate Trainee Scheme?

In short, it’s an investment in you and your career. Joining one of our business areas, you’ll gain a rewarding balance of on-the-job learning, hands-on experience and professional qualifications through a structured and insightful training programme. Over the length of your scheme, you’ll take on a number of different placements and activities in your chosen business area. Whichever scheme you choose, we’ll get you involved in high profile, live business projects with lots of opportunities to work with senior leaders. The programmes are designed to actively help you develop, and give you everything you need to shape a rewarding career. You’ll be supported at every step of your journey, with a dedicated buddy and mentor on hand to guide you, as well as a great network of current and previous trainees. We’ll sponsor you to complete a number of professional qualifications too, helping you sharpen up the skills you need to progress in your chosen career path.

What do I need to apply for the Graduate Trainee Scheme?

Alongside a good degree, you’ll have an enthusiastic, positive nature and a proactive attitude – that’s really important. We’ll invest a lot into your development on the scheme, so we’ll need you to be ready to learn, get stuck in and grab hold of the challenges and opportunities that come your way. You pair ambition with a hard-working, driven approach and determination with excellent team working skills. Great with people, you’ll collaborate brilliantly with your teams and build strong working relationships at every level.

Audit Scheme

 What are the Audit Schemes all about?

At NFU Mutual, we understand the importance of developing strong relationships. It’s what we’ve built our reputation on, as one of the UK’s leading general insurers and financial services companies, and it’s what keeps our customers loyal. We are looking for aspiring graduates to join our Internal Audit Department as trainee Auditors, based in Stratford upon Avon, as part of our Graduate Scheme.

Our Internal Audit Graduate Scheme is designed to give you both hands-on practical experience and focused technical know-how, over a three years to equip you with a balanced combination of soft and technical skills to become competent and successful. 

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

Here at NFU Mutual we focus on continued development and will support you through your professional qualifications, either Chartered Internal Auditor (CMIIA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). You will also get a full corporate induction, along with a tailored local induction programme with your own coach and mentor from a previous scheme.

 

Customer Service Scheme

What is the Customer Service scheme all about?

Great customer service underpins everything we do. It’s the heart and soul of our business. We’ve won numerous awards for our personal, trusted, reliable approach – and it’s something we’re constantly looking to enhance even further. Your role on our Customer Service scheme will be instrumental. You’ll experience what it takes to run a highly successful customer service operation, and provide the financial products that millions of people rely on. You’ll take on a number of placements in different areas, both at Head Office and in our regionsYou’ll get hands-on insight into how our regions deliver to our customers and how Head Office functions support the regions in setting policies and delivering on strategy. Each placement will enable you to build valuable relationships and help you decide which exciting career path to take.

What kind of work will I get involved in and what opportunities will I have?

You’ll build up a strong knowledge of how our successful Claims and Underwriting functions operate across Head Office and our regions. With real responsibility and lots of exposure, you’ll get involved in and lead projects that add value to the business. We value your perspective and give you the opportunity to design and implement changes to our processes. You’ll have a buddy and mentor to support you and plentiful opportunities to build relationships with senior managers.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

We’re committed to your continuous development so throughout your placements, you will undertake training courses and have the opportunity to study towards qualifications such as the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (CII) and PRINCE2 (for project management).

Financial Services Scheme

Joining our Financial Service schemes you will get exposure to a number of key areas, building your technical knowhow through a series of placements. From an early stage in your journey on the scheme you will get exposure to our customers, handling first line queries and policy changes.

What kind of work will I get involved in and what opportunities will I have?

As your knowledge and technical capability grows you will partner with our sales process and technical teams supporting our Financial Advisers to give high quality advice. Combining your knowledge and experience throughout the scheme, your final placement will see you checking the advice given to our customers and playing a vital role in ensuring we strive for continuous improvement. Each placement will provide a full experience where you’ll gain a strong understanding of the Financial Services department

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

As well as an opportunity to grow within a structured development environment we will support you through industry recognised professional qualifications such as, CII Diploma in Financial Planning.

Group Finance Scheme

What does the Group Finance scheme entail?

What better way to gain a broad and deep understanding of how a large Finance department operates than with our hands-on Group Finance scheme? Over three years, you’ll rotate across three diverse placements in areas such as Financial Reporting, Planning and Analysis. It’s a hugely valuable opportunity to build up a wealth of skills across integral areas of the organisation, and see how the department supports the business in achieving long term strategic objectives and investing for the future. We’ll also get you joining us when we visit industry conferences and events. By the end of the scheme, you’ll have a career in Finance built on the best foundations.

What kind of work will I get involved in and what opportunities will I have?

Each placement will be full of hands on experience, where you’ll gain a strong understanding of our Finance department and how we operate. We won’t hold you back from getting involved from the very start. You’ll take responsibility for some high profile work, with exposure to every level of the business. So there will be plenty of chances to work with our senior management.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

We invest in our people. We’ll support you with a structured programme so that you can gain even more professional training and qualifications too, such as Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA) qualifications and PRINCE2 (for project management).

Human Resources Scheme

What does the HR scheme entail?

From recruitment to employee relations, our Human Resources department plays an integral part in the success of NFU Mutual.  During the scheme you’ll gain a fantastic insight into how we look after and develop our people, and how departments contribute to our long-term objectives.  Over three years, you’ll take on various placements within the Human Resources division, each with its own challenges and wealth of opportunities.  HR is an incredibly varied department with a wide and diverse range of opportunities.  These include assisting our business with HR policies as part of our service desk, recruiting talent into the business as part of our resourcing team, as well as working with the business on sensitive HR issues.

What training and qualifications will be available to me?

The scheme will support you in obtaining relevant professional qualifications such as the CII Certificate in Insurance, PRINCE2 Practitioner (Project Management qualification) and a relevant HR Professional Qualification.

IT & Business Management Scheme

What does the IT & Business Management scheme entail?

Our IT & Business Management scheme is special, as it gives you the opportunity to gain a holistic view of the entire IT operation – from architecture and vendor management to business analysis and cyber security. We’ve structured the three year scheme so that you’ll rotate through a series of placements to give you a broad understanding of different IT departments and how they work together. You can look forward to exciting work, hands-on exposure and the opportunity to gain valuable professional qualifications. It’s insightful, varied and dynamic. With a dedicated mentor and a great support network, you’ll have everything you need to develop a rewarding career.

You’ll need to have enthusiasm and positivity with a proactive nature. You’ll be someone who’s keen to learn and get involved and someone who grabs hold of opportunities rather than waiting for them to come. You’ll be ready to thrive and make your mark on everything the scheme brings your way. Effectively collaborating with colleagues to build strong professional relationships at every level throughout your journey here.

IT Technical Leadership Scheme

What does the IT Technical Leadership scheme entail?

We’re looking for the next generation of technically minded graduates that can lead technology change to join our IT Technical Leadership Scheme. We’ve structured this three year scheme so that you rotate through a series of different placements to give you a broad understanding of different IT departments and how they work together. You can look forward to exciting work, hands-on exposure and the opportunity to gain valuable professional qualifications. It’s insightful, varied and dynamic. With a dedicated mentor and a great support network, you’ll have everything you need to develop a rewarding career.

What training and qualifications will be available to me?

We’re committed to your continuous development, so throughout your placements we’ll offer professional training courses and support you to study towards qualifications. These include ITIL (for service management, business change, transformation and growth), the Certificate in Insurance (CII), and also PRINCE2 (for project management). As well as learning about key technologies supporting the insurance industry, we will be skilling you up to understand Cloud, Secure Datacentres & many other integral new technologies.

Portfolio and Project Management Scheme

What does the Project Management scheme entail?

If you are looking for an opportunity to grow with a successful company, enjoying on-the-job learning and gaining professional qualifications whilst adding value to the business. Then, look no further. Our Portfolio and Project Management Scheme is a real investment in you. With ambitious plans ahead here at NFU Mutual, we’re looking to find and develop individuals who have the potential to shape the future of our award-winning organisation.

This is a three year scheme and will see you working within Group Change rotating through various areas of the Department, giving you a detailed understanding of how major projects and programmes are successfully delivered to enable NFU Mutual strategy. There will be opportunities be involved with, and deliver, projects that enable real business benefit.

 What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

Here at NFU Mutual we will offer continuous support and development in obtaining relevant professional qualifications such as the CII Certificate in Insurance, PRINCE2 Practitioner (Project Management qualification) and other qualifications in line with the Group Change competency framework.

 

Pricing Analyst Scheme

What does the Pricing Analyst scheme entail?

Our Pricing function, based at our impressive Head Office in Stratford-Upon-Avon, is a rapidly expanding function; the department is 50 people strong. Following on from a strategic programme launched in 2015 to fortify Pricing at NFU Mutual, there has been substantial investment in technology and people to deliver a cutting edge hub of expertise. With the backdrop of NFU Mutual being a mutual and a highly successful organisation with £1.4 billion GWPI, in Pricing there is a focus on delivering long term value for our customers rather than working to short-term profit targets. As an innovative and recently established department, there is great opportunity to shape ways of working.

Our Pricing function covers commercial, personal and motor lines of business, everything from large commercial risk to pet insurance. The breadth of NFUM’s Pricing department brings the opportunity to broaden your skill set and enrich your knowledge.

What training and qualifications will be available to me?

Our 3 year scheme will see you involved in a range of insurance pricing elements, with a broad range of responsibilities.

The scheme will support you obtaining relevant professional qualifications such as the CII Certificate in Insurance. 

Sales & Business Management (Regional) Scheme

What does the Sales and Business Management scheme entail?

We’re proud of our personal local service, and our branch network plays a key role in delivering this and driving the business forward to meet strategic goals.

Getting stuck into the Sales & Business Management scheme, you’ll spend two years gaining experience that will be invaluable to the growth of your future career. You’ll build an understanding of how our branch network operates and the role the regional sales team plays in maximising the potential and performance of this distribution channel. You'll get exposure to various regionally based roles with focuses on sales, compliance and leadership allowing you to shape your career moving forwards.

You’ll be based in one of our regional sales teams, where you’ll embark on a structured development programme and become licensed to sell our products. Variety? There’ll be lots of that, you’ll enjoy different placements throughout your region and have the opportunity to develop relationships within the Branch network, Regional and Head Offices. And, of course, you will have our full support to help you shape a great career.

What can I expect to get involved with on the scheme?

Regardless of where you start, you’ll get involved from day one on real work with real impact. We’ll get you licensed to sell all of NFU Mutual’s products as soon as possible, so that you can jump straight into learning on the job. There’s a lot of exposure to senior management in the Region and in the Branches, and you’ll be given responsibility and accountability from the get go. You’ll gain a wealth of hands on experience, backed up with solid technical knowledge to make you a success.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

With NFU Mutual, we want you to truly develop and go further. That’s why you’ll be supported to gain industry recognised professional qualifications. With us, you will gain your Certificate in Insurance (CII), and be encouraged to work towards gaining the Advanced Diploma in Insurance by the end of your programme.
