What are the Apprenticeship programmes?

In short, they’re an investment in you and your career. Whether you’re embarking on your first professional role or wanting to build upon experience already gained, you’ll enjoy a rewarding balance of on-the-job learning, hands-on experience and independent study time, supported by managers and dedicated staff, through a government approved apprenticeship programme. Our Apprenticeship programmes last between 15 and 24 months, depending on the route you follow.

What do I need to apply for the Apprenticeship programmes?

You’ll have an enthusiastic, positive nature and a proactive attitude – that’s really important. We’ll invest a lot into your development on the programme, so we’ll need you to be ready to learn, get stuck in and grab hold of the challenges and opportunities that come your way. CHOOSE YOUR PREFERRED SCHEME

We have a range of apprenticeship opportunities available within our different business areas, to suit your ambitions and interests.

IT – First Line Support

What is the IT Apprenticeship programme all about?

Each and every one of our IT Apprentices completes our hands-on Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Standard. It’s how we teach you the skills you need to perform in high-pressure IT environments. Typically it’ll last around 15 months, in which you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to excel through a mixture of on and off the job training.

What kind of work will I get involved in and what opportunities will I have?

You’ll own and progress all of our IT queries, incidents and requests through to resolution. That might mean assisting with an investigation into an IT problem or delivering a one-off project as directed by your team. Whatever you’re doing, you’ll get plenty of exposure to our business and lots of opportunities to challenge yourself.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

As one of our valued Apprentices, we’ll support and guide you through your Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Standard. During the programme, you’ll work your way toward professional qualifications in CompTIA A+ Networking and Architecture; Mobile and Operating systems; Cloud Services; Coding and Logic; and Business Processes.

IT – Business Analyst

What is the Business Analysis Apprenticeship Programme all about?

Our Business Analysis apprentices are part of a team within the IT department that deliver process and IT systems change across NFU Mutual. As a Business Analyst you will follow the Business Analysis Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard. The apprenticeship typically lasts around 18 months, during which time you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to excel through a mixture of on and off the job training.

Business Analysts are respected for their ability to analyse problems, develop solutions and bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff. The Business Analyst helps to make sure that organisations don’t waste money and time on projects or investments that don’t meet theirs or our customers’ needs. The role is a key part within projects and areas of change that improve business operations through the correct use of information systems. This is the highest level of apprenticeship on offer in this field of work and is equivalent to a Foundation Degree.

The scheme is designed to fully support you professionally, giving you hands on work experience, supplemented with a professional study programme.

What kind of work will I be involved in?

You will be working on large projects and programmes of change that require you to engage with all areas of the business. Your role will be to help the business and IT colleagues by planning and delivering analysis services to enable the delivery of successful business change that meets the needs of the organisation and its customer.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

You will study for the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis covering 4 BCS certificates, getting you ready to take the oral examination that completes the Diploma. The programme includes formal course attendance, directed online learning, dedicated mentor input and support, directed self-study and task assignment/review, assessment guidance and preparation. This apprenticeship is recognised for entry onto the BCS Register of IT Technicians confirming SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) level 3 professional competence.

Claims Handling

What is the Claims Handling Apprenticeship programme all about?

All of our Claims Handler Apprentices follow an Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard (L3) or Insurance Professional Standard (L4) during their training. Which programme you follow will be dependent on your previous experience or achievements. However, Apprentices who successfully complete the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard will also get the opportunity to progress onto the Insurance Professional Standard.

Over the course of 18-24 months, you’ll learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to excel through a mixture of on and off the job training. Then, once you’re fully qualified, you’ll get the chance to put all of that learning to great use.

What kind of work will I get involved in and what opportunities will I have?

Managing and processing motor and personal claims requires patience and compassion; it’s about listening to what our customers need and reassuring them at, what can be, an extremely stressful time. You’ll need to talk to our NFU Mutual agents and relevant third parties to make sure claims are settled quickly and efficiently. Whether you’re making sure that we comply with all of our regulatory and internal systems controls or making our customers feel at ease, you’ll give each call and each customer the time, care and attention they deserve.

In this role, you’ll compile, process and record the information we need to investigate, assess and evaluate claims. With real exposure to our clients you’ll be perfectly poised to make and communicate decisions that help us to build lasting relationships. From underwriting, identifying, resolving and escalating complaints to delivering one-off projects, each day will offer you an exciting new opportunity to learn.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

Helping you to develop is one of the things we do best. That’s why we’ll give you all the support you need to successfully complete your Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard alongside a Certificate in Insurance (Cert CII) or your Insurance Professional Apprenticeship Standard alongside a Diploma in Insurance (Dip CII). But, that’s not all; as an NFU Apprentice we’ll also pay for you to become a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship, so that you can connect with different people from across the industry.

Underwriting

What is the Underwriting Apprenticeship programme all about?

As an Underwriting Apprentice, you’ll learn everything you need to know about insurance through our Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard (L3) or Insurance Professional Standard (L4). Which Apprenticeship you work towards will depend on your previous experience or achievements, however there is the opportunity for apprentices who successfully complete the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard to progress onto the Insurance Professional Standard (L4).

Over the course of 18-24 months, you’ll learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to excel through a mixture of on and off the job training. Then, once you’re fully qualified, you’ll get the chance to put all that learning to great use.

What kind of work will I get involved in and what opportunities will I have?

First class customer service is at the centre of everything we do. Whether you’re reviewing or evaluating insurance risk or proposing and negotiating policy terms, you’ll always take a trusted, reliable approach to your work. By working with our NFU Agents and in accordance with our underwriting principles, policy terms and regulatory requirements, you’ll ensure we’re running a successful operation. Day-to-day you could be reviewing and checking insurance quote submissions, processing or referring policy cancellations, or building internal relationships with our Senior Technicians and NFU Agents; no matter what you’re doing you’ll be given plenty of exposure.

We value your input so we’ll make sure you get actively involved in identifying, resolving, and escalating complaints or breaches. Before long, you’ll be responsible for auditing cases and taking ownership for one-off projects. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but you’ll be given plenty of guidance along the way to help you on your journey.

What training and qualifications will I have open to me?

We’re passionate about helping our Apprentices to achieve extraordinary things. That’s why we give you all the support you need to successfully complete your Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard alongside a Certificate in Insurance (Cert CII) or your Insurance Professional Apprenticeship Standard alongside a Diploma in Insurance (Dip CII). But, that’s not all; as an NFU Apprentice we’ll also pay for you to become a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship.
