We caught up with Gideon Ingham, our Head of Pricing and Products, to discuss the exciting journey the team are getting ready to embark on.

I joined the Mutual back in 2014 with my experience of leading people and developing strategies within Financial Services. Throughout my career I have always questioned the accepted and have had the courage to take risks and, most importantly, I have always ensured that I take my team on an inclusive journey to deliver results. Additionally, I have always felt it important to earn the right to make a profit by giving customers what they want. NFU Mutual is an extremely customer-centric organisation which matched my values, and so it felt like the right step for me.

Since joining, I have helped to build a pricing function where fairness is embedded within the price strategy, where the team has been backed with significant investment from the Executives, and where development of our people is a primary focus on supporting our ambition of being a great place to work.

NFU Mutual enjoys an enviable reputation for trustworthiness and honesty within the insurance industry. Our purpose within the Pricing Department is to support the business objectives whilst delivering on our customer’s trust. In short, we aim to deliver fair and accurate prices.

Based at our Head Office in Stratford-Upon-Avon, we are a rapidly expanding function; the department is now over 50 people strong. The backdrop for our pricing is that NFU Mutual is a highly successful organisation, with over £1.5 billion GWPI, focusing on its’ mutual values. This means that the focus within pricing is on delivering long term value for our customers, rather than working to short-term profit targets.

To continue achieving our objectives, it is vital that we look ahead to the future. NFU Mutual is getting ready to deliver an exciting programme of change; this will focus on investing in our core administration platforms and the development of new routes to market. We aim to make our products easier to buy, easier to sell and easier to manage. The opportunity for the current team, and those who want to join us, is how do the pricing team support this?
