Our New Business Developers – Mike Agar and his thoughts!

Let’s take a look at what Mike told us about himself:
I’d seen NFU Mutual at agricultural shows and when I did some research I was really attracted to the mutual values and the way that it approaches the relationship that it holds with its customers.
It sounds like a cliché, but there’s no such things as a typical day in this role and that’s something I love. You spend time building a pipeline of potential business by data sourcing and washing the prospects to check they are suitable. Once you’ve done that, you can start contacting the companies through calls, emails and visits.
There’s a big focus on relationships in this role and it’s important to spend time visiting the Agencies in your patch to work collaboratively. I’m also visible locally and regularly attend networking events. It’s about looking for every opportunity to identify prospects and sometimes that means thinking outside the box!
Being from a non-insurance background has meant I’ve had a lot to learn about the different insurance covers that we offer but there is plenty of support on hand and I’ve been able to call upon my local Development Underwriter when I’ve needed advice on specific cases.
Since joining, I’ve realised there’s real career potential here and I’m excited about my future with the company.
Length of time working at the NFU Mutual: Joined in July 2016.
Current position and department: New Business Developer covering the North East of England and North Yorkshire.
Previous experience: I have 20 years’ experience in Banking and have spent the last 8 years in financial services working with businesses of all sizes.
Personal traits: I would describe myself as an enthusiastic individual. I pride myself on my professionalism, positivity and high standards of customer service.
