I live in Stratford-upon-Avon and everyone in the town knows NFU Mutual – and knows them as a good company to work for. So, some 16 years ago, and with a little encouragement from my parents, I wrote to HR asking them if they had any jobs going. Before I knew it I was working in one of their admin teams. I’ve got to say, it’s been upwards ever since. From working in admin I went on to run a small contact centre. Then I worked as an Agency Process Consultant, then a Business Relationship Manager in IT. I’m currently working as an IT Service Delivery Manager.
You might be wondering why I’ve stayed here so long. For me, it’s the support and the career development. (The location’s convenient for me too.) I’ve been really lucky with my line managers and career progression. I attended the Career Development Centre, which was a great opportunity. It was a three day training workshop – three incredibly intensive days! You’re given all sorts of business scenarios to deal with. A lot of the Directors attend and they act as your mentor for the three days. That’s a big investment of time on their part and tells you a lot about how important your career is to them. And yes, I have developed my career off the back of it.
