"I’d worked as a Commercial Underwriter for nearly 25 years, and spent time training on the job and completing my ACII qualification. I’d heard about NFU Mutual from colleagues who worked there. I liked the fact they were a mutual company, and based near the city centre. I was originally interviewed for a new business role, but the interview process was tailored towards an existing business role, which was perfect for me.

From my first day, I saw that NFU Mutual was a supportive place to work and was proud of its open culture. Colleagues made a special effort to get to know me, and in my first week I’d visited the head office twice, been introduced to senior staff and was attending conferences – all in a week! NFU Mutual has also kept this personal touch with its customers, which I think has a lot to do with the success of the company. I find it really great to work for a company with so much going on. There’s always social activities or charity fundraising, so plenty to get involved with. As for the future, NFU Mutual provides lots of opportunities to develop and train. We’re especially encouraged to volunteer to work at the head office in Stratford, as it’s a brilliant way to see the other sides of the business. Underwriting at NFU Mutual is becoming more and more strategic, meaning I get to advise Agents on new business opportunities. So for me personally, there’s lots of exciting challenges to look forward to."
