Year One
Placement
To welcome you to the business, things kick off with a two week induction programme, where you'll have the opportunity to meet the placement managers and other key people in NFUM. This will be followed by an ongoing local induction. Your first placement manager will work closely with you as you learn about all the processes and systems. In particular, you’ll focus on helping the team in their aims of delivering excellent service to our customers.
Professional qualifications
Together with the Professional Trainee Scheme Co-ordinator you'll create your study plan which will enable you to begin your professional qualifications. All of our Trainees will undertake the Certificate in Insurance qualification first, before moving onto the relevant professional qualification for the division they are in. You’ll cover the legal and regulatory aspects of insurance, as well as learn more about General Insurance and the Claims or Underwriting processes. And by the end of your first year, you’ll have the first qualification under your belt.
Personal development
It’s not just about technical expertise and business know-how. We’ll help you fine tune the softer skills you need too. This will include topics such as how to communicate with colleagues and customers as well as tips on managing your time well and preparing for meetings. And because we know your time is precious, we’ve created the training with flexibility in mind, so you’ll either receive this online or through classroom based training.
Reviewing your placement
The scheme’s a two-way street. So, as well as all the learning, we’ll constantly review and feedback on how you’re doing. Through regular meetings with your placement manager and the Scheme Co-ordinator, we’ll set some goals and agree how we’re going to meet them and measure them. You’ll also give a review and presentation back to your peers of your first placement.
