“I joined NFU Mutual in October 2001 having completed a degree in Agri-food Marketing and Business Studies at Harper Adams Agricultural College and taken a year out to go travelling. Starting as a Commercial Underwriter in Stratford-upon-Avon’s regional branch, I received both ongoing training from my colleagues and support from the training co-ordinator who monitored my work. After a few months I attended a training course aimed at helping with presentations, communication and time management skills, which gave me the chance to meet my colleagues from other offices.

I now work at our Head Office as an Underwriter and have day-to-day control of the farming property accounts. This embraces helping regional underwriters with technical queries, monitoring accounts and, where necessary, taking action to improve their performance by assisting with training. I’ve almost completed my professional exams and NFU Mutual have been incredibly supportive in both providing study time and a worthwhile financial reward on completion. Being from a farming family myself, my current role is an extension of both my academic studies and my personal interest. A perfect combination.”
