“At NFU Mutual if you put in the effort, you really reap the rewards. They give you incredibly thorough training from the word go. Which in my opinion is one of the reasons they foster so much trust in their clients, since by the time you meet them you really know what you’re doing. I went through an intensive, classroom-based training programme before venturing out into the field with a mentor and then eventually on my own. By then, I had all the knowledge and, of course, confidence that I needed.

I now deal with four agent offices around the Midlands, occasionally working from one of the agency offices and spending the rest of the time from my home. I love the freedom to choose how I structure my days. A large proportion of our customers are farming and countryside based, but you don’t need to have a rural background – I didn’t and it hasn’t been a problem at all. Plus the fact, we’re expanding all the time, exploring new markets so there’ll always be a new dimension to the role to keep you on your toes!”
