“I think whenever you’re looking for a new direction in your career, there’s a fear you’re going to either get thrown in at the deep-end or else told what to do at every turn, with no autonomy or responsibility. Well, I needn’t have worried, at NFU Mutual I experienced neither of these things. In fact I had the best of both worlds, incredible support and training coupled with the security of a large successful organisation behind me, but with all the freedom to manage my own workload from an office which they set up for me at home.

Before I joined as a trainee, I’d been working for another large insurer. I found I liked the financial services aspect much more than the general insurance side of things and I’d had it in my mind to move for a while when I saw the opening here. I was over the moon, as I already knew of the company since my Dad was a farmer and had dealt with them for years. I’d only ever heard good things and now, eight years on, I can say it has more than lived up to the perceptions I had.

The main difference here, I think, is the way we interact with our clients – there’s a real sense of loyalty and trust which you just don’t get elsewhere. It’s all about building long-term relationships by offering superior products and local service. A unique market core such as ours brings commercial strength and unlimited potential. Prove that you’ll put in an honest day’s work and they’ll leave you alone to get on with what you do best."
